Profile
Dorothy Draper founded the first commercial interior design firm in the United States in 1923. Her bold use of color — most famously the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia — invented the concept of "hospitality design" as we now know it. Plaster moldings painted in carnival colors, oversized chintz, black-and-white checkerboard floors. Anti-good-taste. Anti-restraint.
Visual language
Cabbage rose chintz, supersized scale, Wedgwood plaster ceilings.
