Profile

Syrie Maugham's 1930 King's Road drawing room — white walls, white slipcovers, pickled pine, mirrored screens — created an aesthetic so influential that "the all-white room" is still her phrase. She decorated for Wallis Simpson, Tallulah Bankhead, and a generation of London and Hollywood houses before WWII.

Visual language

Pickled bleached pine, white-on-white textures, mirrored screens, plaster palm-frond sconces.
